I'd love it if you had an offline version of this thing - I want to be able to work on setting up my routine on my PC, but not necessarily on the website. Doing it only on the phone is a bit painful.

And, if this works after two or three sessions with my trainer, I am definitely buying the pro version even if you don't give us an offline version.

Huh? Not sure I understand what you are trying to do????

This is a JEFIT product so of course you need to be on their website to set up your routine, where else would you set it up so it can be tracked? You can do it from your PC/Mac very easy instead of on your phone; unless you like doing it the harder way. You may need to explain better.

I'm not necessarily interested in always tracking my workout progress through a second-party service. It's not necessarily a BAD thing, but neither is it necessarily a GOOD thing, given that businesses are sometimes compromised by hackers, sold to other providers, etc. In such an event I'd want to be able to continue using the app even without going through the website.

That said, so far this looks like a very good product, but short of paying a fee (i.e. buying a license to a client with the implicit subscription to the service, which is what the pro version does) the business model looks like an expensive one for JEFIT and my expectation, based on what I've seen with several similar companies in the past, is that there will at some point be an incursion of either uncontrollable and unwanted advertising (spam in some form) or the rules will change and the providers will need to charge for "premium" services. That might make it impossible for me to access my workout records, since they're not on paper (and that's the good part; paper is bad.)

Pragmatically:
There will be times when I do not have net access. The cloud is a wonderful thing, but the one thing it is NOT is complete and pervasive throughout the world.
I would like to be able to work on my workouts when I am away from a data connection.
I would like to be able to DO a workout without an active connection.

Synchronizing and tracking my workouts on my own PC, which would sync with the website, seems a reasonable way to do this. I recognize that it's a non-trivial amount of work, and may not be the direction you want to go, which is why I said if it happened I would INSTANTLY buy rather than waiting to see how well it works.

I write software, I know how much work is involved, and I'm not interested in short-changing the developers. I just want the flexibility to use my own data (my workout plan and history) offline.

Forgive me but unless you synchronize your phone with the website are you not working off line?

 Are you being obtuse or am I just being obscure? Granted, I'm still learning the ins and outs of the app, but this doesn't seem like a hard concept.

I want to be able to create and work on a routine without using my phone, which is a small interface that gives me neck cramps if I focus too long on it. I was just now using the app while otherwise occupied, figuring out a way to enter the really random routines that my professional sadist/personal trainer inflicts, and I got to intensely experience the between-the-scapulae cramping.

Anyway, I want to be able to do this on my PC with its larger screen and more comfortable chair, without using the website right away. I know that I could use the website, but I don't necessarily WANT to. I will sometimes carry around a bootable keyfob for when I'm traveling light so that if I use someone else's machine, I don't have to lose my working environment. Some of those 'someone else's machines' do not have internet access. Sometimes those 'someone else's machines' have stupidly expensive internet access. So, offline and sync later for the PC is also desired.

And, no, this doesn't address getting the data between the hypothetical app on the PC and the app on my phone without going online; that's a separate flavor of worms.

I'm exploring alternatives like android on a tablet that can sync later, but I don't know yet if this app is happy to run on the larger screen layout. (And my tablet is no longer being supported but that's my own problem.)

I was just trying to figure out what you were trying to do; no offense meant.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree. To expect an app company to provide a website for you to use their product off line would be ludicrous. How would they make their money, they are not doing this for free? What you will need to to is to buy a program that you can install on your computer that hopefully has something you can also use on your phone and allows you to sink the two as you feel necessary. Is there something out there like this?
