View Full Version : Breaking Out of Seasonal Depression

Hey all,
I don't know if this constitutes as motivation but pretty much since the seasonal changes I have been feeling just down and out, not in terms of going to the gym and wanting to exercise (as I have been going 6 to 7 days a week and loving every second of it) but lately its more or less that I have just become down personal with my attitude/emotions, been getting frustrated at people at the gym (more or less idiots and those walking in my way) and just bleh I guess you can state.
One of the things that actually recently thrown me into a funk was that my EX sent me an email wanting to meet up for coffee a few weeks ago (which of course I declined) but the fact that after what had happened (cheating) and what was done to me, why would you ask to meet up, talk and feel like nothing happened (especially since she even continued to hook up with the guy she cheated on me with the day she moved out and still is). I don't mean to dwell on this topic and keep talking about it (because I know you guys have already had enough hearing about it) but the past 2 1/2 months I was doing FANTASTIC and I mean happy as can be, upbeat and everything and as soon as that email came it brought me down, made me start thinking about her again, how she could think I would want to talk after what had happened like nothing happened at all (especially with her being my best friend and love for 4 years...) and just been messing with my mind which of course is now probably causing this depression of sorts. (I deleted all of the photos of us, deleted her from facebook and everything but it is still just racing through my head, even right now its just bugging me). Just now everything I have been doing from watching certain movies, going out and doing certain things, even certain bands just remind me of her and the past and I get down.
I was wondering how you guys deal with the seasonal changes and mood changes that you might experience? Any way to bring back that upbeat feeling in a way or get over an EX fully?
Been listening to this song repeatedly as it makes me just happy as can be but dont want to overplay this song constantly haha

Well at least its not 30 f-ing degrees outside like it is here. Went from 60's to 30's overnight. Anyhow...
Do you think maybe you're overtraining some? Mood changes are a pretty good indicator. As is frustration/aggression for things that normally wouldn't bother you. I know you enjoy it, but maybe try a couple days off to see if your mind resets.
For the ex, she's messing with your mind like you said. Easier said than done, but you can't let her get to you. You did the right thing by not going. She's probably realized what a dumb mistake she made. You could hire a hitman. Just a thought.

2 things i'm doing for it at the minute (i'm in a really similar state with therms of the EX) infact mine tried talking to me again adding me on facebook trying to be my best friend like nothing happened even when i got her to admit the cheating at the time she was more concerned about me going on her facebook and seeing the messages off 1 of the lads she was cheating with me on...i was tempted to punch her in the face haha!!
But no matter how shitty you feel or how hard it is to get out of bed, FORCE yourself to get to the gym, everything will be better once your there, and it'll be even better once youve hit all the weights!

That is what I don't understand is how they can act like your best friend after they know what they did was wrong. Go figure and my EX was hiding her phone, deleting her messages and everything AS we were living together which is the most sickening part of it all. But I feel your pain bro and sorry that you have to be going through this as well, not right for her to be doing that to you and lying completely to your face and doing things behind your back, absolutely disrespectful and despicable. I would never hit a woman at all but the fact that my EX was lying to my face, cheated on me and now wanted to meet up to "talk" my god, haymaker! haha, naw...
But yea just gotta keep going to the gym which is what I am doing every single day except for either Sundays or Saturdays, just have to have 1 day off but really hating this weather change though and especially now its the holiday seasons so have that feeling of loneliness in a way. Like I said only thing about the gym that is really really angering me is people STILL dropping weights around you as your doing your workout, walking in between you as your doing your reps and thinking they can do heavy weights but cant even do 1 rep.... that stuff is just like...really now? Haha
Gotta say though one thing that sparked me up was Thanksgiving and stuffing my face full of food as well as being able to drive from North Carolina to Virginia to see family.... MMMMMM TURKEY!

Actually here in Cary, NC it has been going from 70 to 30 each and every night and don't understand it, the frost in the morning on the car just SUCKS! haha, have to wake up a bit earlier and leave for work earlier just to make sure im not late and that the frost is off. This weather is weird has hell but means that we are going to have a pretty crappy winter that is for sure since our summer was out of control with rain and heat and just other random things.
Hmmm I could possibly be that is one of the things, I mean my training ranges from either 6 days a week with a Saturday / Sunday rest day or if im feeling up to it, take a break when I want to after lets say 12 or 13 days straight (which I know is stupid haha) Actually took a few days for Thanksgiving and such and then when I bought Zelda Skyward Sword took 2 days off just to play it straight, didn't give that up at all haha.
Ohhh snap having a hitman would be phenomenal, put an end to all worries haha. Yea it was just from that email that it got to be cause I was doing extremely well for the 2 1/2 months and then BAM! smack right in the face just memories and everything coming back in full force which of course brings ya down. But that is the one thing I feel happy about is that I didn't go cause last thing I want to hear about is either her sexual escapades or however she is feeling. Could have talked before but made the choices she made and just gotta move on. I think its just the holiday season (especially right now was when my grandfather passed away before Christmas, so a lot of that buried emotion is just coming back up).
I appreciate it guys and like I said, I hate bringing up this topic and sorry for having to hear it over and over again but I appreciate the support and feedback. Actually having a better day today as yesterday UPS lost my package that I got from GNC, the gym was overcrowded, fell asleep on the couch until 3AM haha, and just everything was blah. Today I learned some new MYSQL and PHP code for revamping the pages im working on, UPS found my package and is delivering it today, paid 25$ to fill my gas tank in my car as gas is 3$ a gallon, and just feel happy and upbeat! Just gotta keep it rocking of course ;)

Have you considered taking Vitamin D supplements, usually winter means less sun and staying indoors. So you'd lack exposure to VitD. [I'm not a doctor so I can't dispense medical advice, talk to your doctor about this]. Also, colder weather means you have to expend more energy to keep your body warm.
