    Not worthy of giving advice

Have you ever been asked for fitness tips and you feel like I am not really the guy to talk to about that? This has happens to me I am not in the best shape and I feel I am not really the one with the answers. I have been at this full time for a year and I have lost weight and bulked up again and getting ready to go for weight loss again, but I am still the same shape I was round lol. Ok not so round but round enough. I just don't feel I should be giving advice, I have no problem telling people where they can find the info that may help them. Just want to know what everyone else thinks or does?

I've only ever had someone ask my for advice once - I just told him to check out the StrongLifts workout on the Internet and go for that for a few months and then work from there.

I certainly don't feel knowledgeable enough to be giving out detailed advice.

If you don't know the answer, say so. No one has all the answers.

If you have made some good progress that makes you a good person for adviceso. I would never ask a skinny person for weightloss tips if they have been skinny their whole life. Sounds like you have struggled with your weight and size but are making good progress you are the perfect person for advice

I have been asked for advise since I started lifting 14+ years ago. I certainly understand where cpu_punk is coming from. When I give any advise I only give it on my own experiences. I know what has worked for me and what hasn't. I have dispelled many myths over the years and with my own knowledge and knowledge I have sought, I have what I like to refer as a good solid foundation. Like most things there is still more to learn and I am a student of weight lifting.

The best advise I give is (1) just do something, (2) don't worry about supplements as they won't make a difference when you start, (3) NEVER sacrifice good form or technique, (4) only worry about what YOU are doing not your friends or the guy next to you is doing, and have fun because if you can't it won't last. I also let them know it will be hard and if it isn't they are not trying hard enough and not challenging their body; gains will be slow and minimal.

Making suggestions about what type of program to use is probably the hardest. There are so many things out there and I have tried a lot and seen great success only to return to those same workouts to see minimal results. And I'm always looking for others such as the Madcow I'm on now; though I have done something similar many years ago just not exactly this format.

One thing I don't do is walk around as if I'm an authority on weight lifting. Heck some I have met in the gyms with lifting "degrees" have less knowledge and are probably more dangerous than good. And I will only take the advise of a juice monkey with a grain of salt.
