    Need Help

I have been going to the gym for awhile now, and I am having trouble toning and lossing weight in one area. That area is my upper legs. Because of this, even tho I have lost 40 pounds, and gone from a size 11 to a size 6, because of my legs not loosing the fat, I am unable to reach my goal of a size 4 which I have been told is extremely possible! Please help!

That's not the way that fat loss works. Fat loss doesn't occur in a specific area, it happens all over the body. It is impossible to target fat loss to a specific body area.

Fat distribution is also gender-specific. In women the body specifically lays fat on the thighs, backside and breasts (whereas in men it tends to be around the waist). Thus these areas are always going to be the hardest to lose fat from, as you are fighting the body's natural systems.

However, even in these difficult areas the fat will reduce as it reduces from the body. You have to keep on with the weight loss, diet and exercise regime and you'll get there eventually.

There are no shortcuts, no magic pills, no special techniques. Anybody who tells you otherwise is lying to you (probably to sell you a product/diet/exercise regime/book etc). Don't believe them.

Just steady progress. Don't get demoralised, and keep going!!! It sounds like you've made good progress already!!! You're on the right track, you just have to keep going a bit longer.

    Kind Regards
    Dave

As you know, you cannot "spot" work a particular area of the body. And usually the first place you gain fat is the last place you will lose it; and that can take some time. Plus your body may be predisposed to deposit fat there due to genetics. I have worked hard to get rid of the small amount of fat I carry on my lower back and it just won't disappear, and I have been active with lifting and cardio for over 14 years.

Of course your diet, cardio, lifting, genetics, rest, water intake, etc; these will all play a part. Finding the right balance is difficult; don't I know it. From what you've said you have accomplish a lot; good for you. Just keep working on it.

Thanks Guys!! I know I have come along way and I love my body now! I just want to loose that last bit on my legs to get to that size 4 i should be! I know you cannot target a specific area. It funny how with my size 6 jeans they are so loose around the hips, but tight around the legs. Probably the reason why I am asking for help with my legs!

Life would be so much easier if you could shift belly fat by doing crunches, shift thigh fat by doing leg extensions, shift bum fat by doing squats etc.

Sadly this is not the case. I've lost 20+ pounds myself recently, I'm slim again but I still can't shift my love-handles...

    *sigh*

    Kind Regards
