    Lower Belly Fat

    Hi everyone,
Ive been working out steadily now for about 4 months after not being active my entire life lol Ive lost 25 lbs and about 25" total. Im seeing results but not in my lower abs. Am i doing something wrong here? Better yet, is there any exercises for your abs that work better than others for that lovely doughnut around my lower belly? Really just need some opinions on what others like. I know what im doing is working but i want more results in my true problem area. Thanks for any advice!!

    Hope this helps

Sounds like you are doing great with loosing wieght and size, gratz. I dont know what your water intake is but i have been told in the past by a personal trainer that some people can work out for months and still have that lower belly ring. He said that most people he ran into drank gatorade and diet soda's and very little actual straight water. As soon as they incorporated straigt water in thier plan and cut out the excess other drinks, Nothing wrong with sports drinks at all just not being the main source of fluids, they began to notice the ring melt away. I hope I helped a little. good luck and have fun.

This by far is the hardest place to lose fat; don't I know it. Working out for over 14 years and that is the one place that I dislike the most. Things that have helped me are (1) increasing cardio at a HUGE rate and (2) cutting out breads, cereals, pastas, etc. Now when standing erect this cannot be seen on me however when bending over it can be seen. Perhaps if I would have done this back in my 20's and 30's and not my 40's, I would have been better off.

The advice above is sound, increasing your intensity is the way to go, if your diet is solid. Look into compound movements and Olympic lifts. Also a DIRTY training method called The Tabata Method is a killer, not for the faint of heart! Look it up on tnation.com

Good luck everyone and in my opinion THE best method is a CONSISTENT effort, without this ingredient nothing will work.

I was told that increased cardio paired with strength interval for the abs works best. I switch it up between tabata training, supersets, and circuit work specifically for abs. I lift/strength train 6 days a week and then do additional cardio/abs 4 of those days too, with one day of rest. It took me 4-5 months to see the lower ab start to melt away. Kettleball work also helped.

    Re:Belly Fat

In my experience it isn't a specific workout that will remove fat from any particular area. Unfortunately belly fat is the last to go. Once you are close to your goal weight, you will find the the belly fat goes away.

lower belly fat is caused by two main problems: diet and cortisol. as has been noted, crappy diet will make it impossible to fix the belly fat. interval cardio is great. "ab work" is almost completely worthless and will not change the appearance of the abs at all. they will not "pop out" or whatever from under the fat. the fat must be removed. they're already there.

cortisol: will be high if you are underfed and/or overworked. if you are doing a ridiculous amount of cardio to combat your belly fat, it's going to cause that fat around your middle to stick like glue. plenty of rest, really clean diet, and the right amount of the right kind of "cardio" (especially well-timed on regards to meal times) is where it's at.
