Red face Not sure if a dancer fits in well here...

New to the Jefit app, and to actually being motivated to work out on my own. This is the best app I've found so far for customizing and keeping track of my workouts!

I've been dancing on and off for six years now, and have been most serious about it in the last year or so. I'm currently part of a bellydance troupe and am also working on remedial ballet. (Just the basics; no pink tutus please!) In addition to classes and rehearsals with my teachers, I've started my own workouts to increase my leg strength and flexibility. I've had knee pain for six years, and I'm one of the least flexible members of the company, so I'm working to alleviate these problems so that they no longer affect my dance progress!

(On the tiny, slight off-chance that there are other bellydancers reading this, I'm Suhaila Level 1 certified, working on L2 cert (not til March 2012 b/c $$$) and some L3 material. And the Jamila and Bal Anat choreographies because, let's face it, they are awesome. Being able to perform Suhaila's Sword Dance in September is my current fitness goal. Splits and slow Turkish drops, oh yeah.)

    Hello Gugnico,

Welcome to JEFIT! We are very grateful for your support and glad to hear that you chose the JEFIT Workout Application to help you keep motivated to workout on your own. Of course dancers fit in well here and knowing our app been beneficial for you and your training for dancing makes us excited that not just weight lifters and bodybuilders are using our application but those who enjoy fitness, dancing and other activities as well.

Six years? Wow that is incredible and pure dedication to something you love, which is something we find impressive here at JEFIT. I have never done any type of professional dancing before at all (though I have gone raving and clubs and such but of course that isn't dancing) and my sister does Jazz dancing so I understand the time and dedication that it does take to practicing routines and getting into shape for the performances. I'm sorry to hear that you have a pain in your knee and for six years, that is quite an amount that you have been putting yourself through but it is impressive to know that you have still stuck with dancing, your passion rather then letting the pain take over you and away from dancing. Starting your own workouts while using some of the workouts on the app will only help benefit you more and give you the strength you need to push yourself to that next level.

We appreciate your support and glad to hear that you have chosen JEFIT as your main app for customizing and tracking workouts. If you ever need any advice, help, want to chat or anything at all please feel free to message me or leave a post/thread on the forums and the thousands of JEFIT Users/Community Members will be more than willing to help you out!

I wish you the very best of luck with your dancing and hope to hear more of your progress!

    Best,
    -Rob

Haha I love my raving, cannot beat that type of dancing at all especially going into random areas and warehouses where underground raves are held and just going nuts with glowsticks

Welcome! You work out so you fit in fine.

Big fan of dance myself. I'm white so I really don't have any rhythm but I enjoy watching it. America's Best Dance Crew and So You Think You Can Dance are some guilty pleasures of mine.

Just noticed this thread while I was searching for something else!! Glad there are other Dancers out there and I hope you are still with us!

I've been trying to find a workout that assists with the strength needed for pole dancing but none of the pole-dancers/teachers I've spoken to understand anything about weight-training, and none of the weight-trainers I've spoken to understand anything about the needs of pole-dancing!!!

    *sigh*

    Kind Regards
    Dave

Hey there! I dance too and I LOVE Suhaila! Tell me more about her program, are you doing online classes?
I just started Jetfit, how is it working for you?

Many of the best physiques I have ever seen belonged to dancers. And recent TV programmes which considered the fitness and strength of different kinds of athletes and TV celebrities were routinely won by the dancers!

My own background is in Ballroom and Latin - I competed nationally in University Competitions in my teens and early twenties - my speciality was the Quickstep. But it gave me a healthy appreciation of all different kinds of dance.

As I said earlier I am currently experimenting with PoleDance - although my (over)weight and some injuries have been holding me back. I have almost achieved my ideal weight again now so I hope I will get back to the pole soon! Just got to give recent injuries time to heal.

I hope there are more dancers out there on this forum and that we can create some threads on the subject. Whatd'ya say? I would be particularly interested to hear how you use the gym to supplement your training as this is an area I can find little information on.

    Kind Regards
    Dave
