Optimum Nutrition - Gold Standard 100% Casein

Now that I've reached the last two servings I think I can give a full review.

I chose this product based on numerous reviews and in store recommendations. I purchased the Chocolate Supreme flavor since chocolate flavor is tough to get wrong. Their product supplies 24g of protein per scoop, glutamine, and BCAAs.

More detail is available on their site: http://www.optimumnutrition.com/prod...ein-p-219.html

Like most casein, it's very thick. Mixing with water rather than milk makes it less like pudding. If you're taking more than one serving at a time, fill the shaker with the total amount of liquid (16-20 oz). Then mix one scoop at a time. Otherwise you can end up cement in the shaker. Be sure you clean out the shaker after you use it. Casein likes to stick to everything.

I use this product each night before bed. The chocolate supreme flavor is VERY chocolatey. No bad after taste at all. It keeps me full all night. I'm even able to workout in the morning without snacking (part of the reason I bought it).

    Bottom Line:
At ~$28 for 2lb, I'll be buying another tub tomorrow. May try out cake batter or chocolate peanut butter.

    UPDATE:
I bought Chocolate Peanut Butter last night. Even better than Chocolate Supreme. Also had Blueberries n Cream which tastes like a blueberry muffin. At this point I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of their flavors.

Though this might sound bad but I didn't even notice that you wrote this review Justin haha, since the Cellucor review came up I never fully clicked into the Supplement Review forum section as a whole but fantastic review. Optimum Nutrition has always had phenomenal and some of the top of the line protein powders (whey, casein and soy alike) and this seems like it fits their mold and continuation of their dominance perfectly.

I used to take casein proteins all of the time and just love knowing that I am getting the nutrients that I need while I sleep and continuing my muscle building throughout the night and not losing what I gained throughout the day.

When I get the money I will pick this product up as I am looking for more variants of casein proteins and for 28$ (and Im sure you can get it cheaper), you cannot beat that price at all

I workout after work so typically 5-8 PM, post workout I take either ON Whey or GNC AMP Wheybolic (2 scopes of one or the other) then I go home and eat dinner. By that time it is bed time. Does it make sense to drink another shake before bed for recovery?

I wasn't feelying muscle for several days after a workout. I recently stopped taking some medications and now I feel the muscle stiffness within 20 hours of working out which is what I expect versus 36-72 hours. Might Casein help with recovery stiffness faster?

I also take Omega 3,6,9 + Potassium+ Vit D+ Magnesium and GNC Ripped Vitapak.

It's not going to aid in recovery. Casein is great to 1) help satisfy appetite 2) provide a slow release of protein. The latter is why many take it at night. That and the (extreme) fear of catabolic activity. In your situation, I wouldn't worry about taking it at night. You could still make use of it during the day.
