Poledancing is a fantastic sport, more akin to gymnastics than the stripper image it has.
I find it really hard, though, because all my strength is in the wrong places. You need the strength to pull yourself up the pole vertically (while most lat/deltoid routines favour a wide grip), you need strength to hold yourself on the pole which favours the wrist flexors and forearms, and to grip with the legs which requires abductor/adductor strength.
And more than anything else you need a strong core.
The traditional gym disciplines are almost useless for the purpose. Can anybody suggest any gym-specific routines which can prepare me for poledance? As a male I find my body mass too great to learn the finer points of the art because I can't even lift my own bodyweight for long enough.
So I need to specifically develop those strengths.
Please help!
Kind Regards
Dave
