Quick Protein Comparison

I posted this in my log here -> http://www.jefit.com/forum/showthread.php?6753-Deviation-s-Secret-Public-Log&p=19776&viewfull=1#post19776 But I thought I'd share it here as well.

    Last Update: 01/01/2012

So I thought I post a quick comparison of the a few of the whey products out there. Not detailed or in depth lab analysis. Just a simple "are you getting what you're paying for?" comparison. You might be surprised.

*Market Type indicates the primary source of protein. Link to above spreadsheet.

I picked a few easy to obtain whey products. No I didn't get every flippin' protein powder out there. I don't have that kinda time. Take a look at lines 2 & 3.

    Concentrates & Blends
GNC. Well if you enjoy getting over charged for a mediocre product, then you're in luck. And don't give me that "I have a Gold Card" crap. Why should I have to pay and wait for a certain time to get a good deal?

Vitamin Shoppe BodyTech Whey Tech Pro24. Aside from having the world's longest name, the stats actually look really good here. It pulls a solid 2nd and just narrowly beats out ON. I can't comment on taste since I've yet to try it. I think this one will be next on my list to try though.

MyoFusion is by far one of the best tasting proteins, but I think that also hurts them here. The taste & consistency are likely attributed to the blend of proteins they use which I believe lowers the per serving protein number.

ON pulls the highest per serving amount and also comes in 3rd cost-wise. It tastes good and mixes great. Gold Standard is really a solid product.

So then there's Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey which is carried at Wal-Mart, Kroger, and other grocery stores. $15 for 2lbs is nothing to sneeze at. And it's full of other things as well (creatine, taurine, etc.). Personally, I don't like the "eggs in one basket" approach. But I did just pick up a tub of this last night. Taste & mixability are what you'd expect from this price level. Not bad, but not the best I've had.

    Isolates
I've also added a couple whey isolates to the list. Isolates are more potent by their very nature and usually carry a high price tag compared to the concentrates & blends.

Body Fortress Super Advanced Isolate puts a very hefty margin in the cost/serving category between it and competitors. It mixes surprisingly well (MUCH better than their whey) and tastes good as well. With 83% protein per serving, it might be worth trying out.

Vitamin Shoppe BodyTech Whey Tech Isolate contains 82% protein per serving and is $0.28 per serving more than Body Fortress. I can't comment on taste/mixability as I haven't tried it yet.

What about the servings per container? i've noticed that's the biggest thing, got a cheap all in 1 the end of last week, to see me through until christmas, it's empty now even with taking slightly less than the servings!

I didn't add that to the list, but that directly impacts the cost/serving number. I left this at 2lb to keep it level. If you notice the serving size is different on each one.

Like to save my money but also know I am spending my money on a worthy product and not getting fillers and *Bullcrap* for the money I am paying. Pretty much false advertising as you would say haha
66% protein per 45g scoop @ $0.50 a serving. Not a bad deal price wise, but you can see that it ranks pretty low content wise.

Updated the spreadsheet with two more isolates and added a link to download.

Also did some research on SNI PW-30. I know why it's low in the % per serving category. They are blending egg, whey, and casein. Similar to Myofusion. Interesting that they add all those vitamins to it though.

I feel embarrassed haha but still worth it for myself, just gotta keep looking around for more deals or something to save me on the money area
If you want a cheap(er) isolate, look at the Body Fotress one in the chart. It actually tastes pretty good and mixes much better than their whey. (just bought some to try)

Went into GNC today to pick up some ON Whey and the guy behind the counter started preaching on their new AMP line of products....seemed to have something like 3x the BCAA's in it if not more. What are your thoughts on this product?

55% protein per scoop @ $1.34 each. ON Gold Standard is 82% protein per scoop @ $0.77 each. Price aside, ON's whey has 5.5g of BCAAs per scoop versus AMP's 8g. Not sure about you, but I can't justify double the cost for less protein.

The GNC guy's are tools 90% of the time. All they care about is selling you GNC product and Gold Cards. Not sure if they get some sort of incentive for that or not.
