Glad to see things are good man. I'm guessing by the email addy you've decided to lend your skills to the masses. On a completely random note, are those your pits on the website? So ferocious and mean looking.

Well I don't know what the situation is in the US, but in the UK pitbulls ended up being trophy animals or status symbols, largely with people involved in gangs. They were inevitably treated cruelly and were often trained to attack. The problem with a pitbull compared to many other dog breeds is that they can cause a lot of damage very quickly and after a number of very high-profile attacks on children the Government felt pressured into a knee-jerk reaction of adding them to the banned dangerous-dogs list. So now they are illegal in the UK and it is a criminal activity to breed them here.

Statistically speaking you are far more likely to be bitten by a jack russell terrier, which can be nasty little so-and-sos, and I never met a chihuahua that didn't snarl and snap, but the damage these dogs can do is correspondingly small and so they are not considered dangerous.

It's all a bit mad really, but the real irony is that their illegal status has made them all the more desirable as status-symbols/trophy animals for gang members, so now all the legitimate and well-looked after pits have gone and the only ones left on the streets are those with neglect-caused neuroses making them ticking-time-bombs should a child frighten them accidentally...

Personally I'm happy with my Alsatian/collie cross rescue-dog and I love him to bits!!!!

    Kind Regards
    Dave

I agree with you... now! All my life I've been around pedigree dogs. The first two family pets were pedigree corgis. Then a neighbour gave us a very small alsatian puppy (probably not purebred, but definitely alsation and probably taken too early from her mother) who became a much loved pet. Corgis are lovely but they are not particularly bright and I was much taken with the intelligence of the alsatian.

I went away to university so couldn't have pets, then I was in houseshares where I couldn't have pets, then I was living alone and working full time and thought I couldn't have pets. But a colleague whose living situation was similar to mine got a rescue dog. When I suggested it was unfair for them to leave the dog alone all day they responded that whatever love and attention the dog got when they were home was more than it would get in the pound.

That seemed like a valid argument to me so I resolved to get a rescue dog myself (although I would regret not having the puppy phase - my two brothers have both gone for pedigree dogs since (one for an alsatian, and the other for a Golden Lab who died recently and has been replaced by a pedigree chocolate lab). As it turned out I had a nervous breakdown and became unable to work so the "leaving him at home all day alone" ceased to be a problem.

I went to a rescue centre with the intention of finding an alsatian, but "Trent" practically threw himself at the bars of his shelter wanting to be friends with me and so I knew he was the one. I've always had a soft spot for collies anyway...

Now he means the world to me and - as is the way with dogs - I to him!!!

Was there ever a more wonderful animal?

And, as I've said, he's done much more to help my depression than drugs ever have...

...although he's much more difficult to swallow...

    Kind Regards
    Dave

Anyway... I figured it was more environmentally friendly to recycle a dog than it was to have one built for me....

They're trying to do the same in the US with BSL: breed specific legislation. It's brought on by people who don't understand the real cause of dog attacks; bad owners. A good friend of mine's pit is one of the sweetest dogs I've met.

And I agree 100% Dave. Damn chihuahuas are evil. Those and pomeranians.

We've got 4 dogs and they are the biggest babies. Great Dane, Newfoundland, Boston Terrier, and a French Bulldog.

Yeah it's nonstop at our house. Not much down time for sure. That's why I workout at 4am. No one/dogs are up. The two giants eat about 15 cups of food a day combined. The two little ones eat about 1.5 cups a day. And the kid, I lost track. He eats like daddy.

If we had a bigger house and yard, we'd probably have more dogs. I wouldn't be against fostering dogs. Downside is the wife would want to keep them all.

You don't tend to see chiuhuahuas very much in the UK. Nor pomeranians for that matter. But Jack Russell Terriers. and their mongrels, are everywhere.

Far from being the cute little intelligent darlings of Hollywood, they tend to be yapping, snappy, territorial little bullying b****rds!!!!

One even bit Tom Baker, and that should tell you something!!!

    And I love dogs!!!

    Kind Regards
    Dave
