    Jasons Keto Journal

    Okay I decided to start a Keto Journal, mainly for my own benefit too keep myself motivated and to atttract advice from more experienced forum members.

    I plan to write loosely about my Keto experience. I will post about my food diary but if you want to see the diary in full detail you can follow me on myfitnesspal.com/jasonhannen just add me as a friend.

    Hopefully I will achieve the results I am expecting which will allow others to draw from both my experience and mistakes.

    All constructive criticism is welcome (and needed)

    Why Keto?
    For the same reason I started 5x5 Stronglifts, the advice and reasoning for doing so seems to be strong. I started 5x5 training and the results are tremendous, my gym buddy and I have both seen excellent gains in our first 6 weeks HOWEVER whilst I am happy with my muscle and strength gains I am seriously disappointed with my body fat percentage which has not moved from 26% in the 6 weeks we have being doing 5x5. So I checked out what I consider to be reliable internet sources seeking information on how to change up my diet to decrease my Body Fat percentage.

    I read up on Keto and it seems like the right diet programme for me as it wont affect my strength and muscle gains from 5x5 and should have the desired effect in reducing my bodyfat percentage. The theory being that by taking no more than 30grams of Carbs a day you train your body to use fat as its main source of energy therefore If I am in Calorie deficit my bodyfat percentage should decrease.

    DAY ONE BODY STATS
    Weight = 88.8 KG's
    Waist = 39.5 inches
    Bodyfat = 26%
    I am currently benching 75kg inc the bar

    So I am on day three of Keto here is my shopping list of key ingredients

    I am really going to miss porridge, milk, low fat crisps etc but on the flip-side hello bacon and eggs

    • Rapeseed Oil
    • Milled Organic Flaxseed
    • Unsalted peanuts and Almonds
    • Avacodo
    • Double Cream
    • Bacon
    • Cheese
    • Cottage Cheese
    • Soya Milk
    • Eggs
    • Freshly Frozen Green Veg


    My supplements are
    • Whey protein
    • Creatine


    My Nutritional goals are
    Calories = 2400 daily
    Fat 160gm
    Protien 210gm
    Carbs 30gm

    I will tweak these goals according to results.

    Yesterday we have a family barbecue and I made sure to say a grand Bon Voyage to all the good stuff and pigged ot on chocolate and sugary things.

    Day One..
    Breakfast = Scrambled eggs (3 large eggs and 50ml of double cream) Two slices of thick ham

    An experiment went a bit wrong, I bought some organic Flax Seed (to hit my fat targets) and mixed it with some double cream, it didn't mix so good but I ate it anyway.

    topped up my fat with 50gm of almonds

    Another experiment - added 50gms of Flaxseeds to my protein shake, as flaxseeds dont taste of anything it was completely okay although I had to top up my bottle with some water and neck the bottle again as seeds were stuck to the side.

    Day Two

    first day of training since starting Keto, I didn't feel full of energy but completed my workout and broke a couple of Personal bests, so far so good but it's early days.

    I struggled to hit my Fat target on day one so I bought some Rapeseed oil which ahs a high fat content, mostly poly unsaturated, this should help me hit my fat goal.

    I put the flax seeds in my shake again, and again it wasn't that bad. Still I need to figure out a better way of ingesting 100gms of Flaxseeds a day.

    I also mixed 50ml of rapeseed oil with an avocado to bump my fat intake but I still came up 30gram shy of my fat target.

    Day 3

    Only half way through day but I need to log this right away.

    I added 50ml of Rapeseed oil to my protein shake and it tasted fine whilst pushing my closer to achieving my daily fat requirement which has been a struggle in the first two days.

    My concern is that taking 50ml of Rapeseed oil daily may be doing me mroe harm than good but I cannot find out any info to suggest either way. there are soem post online about people taking a couple of teaspoons of oil a day but no info on anyone taking as much as 50ml a day?

    I also decided to book a doctors appointment to get my cholesterol levels checked out.

    Still Day 3 my weakness is picking between meals which has contributed greatly to my excess bodyfat. On Keto Day 3 I feel quite satisfied between meals and dont have the same urges to pick or graze. Hopefully this will last.

    I think its the same or certainly similar to Canola oil but yes the name is certainly questionable. It's definitely nothing like Rhohypnol.

    Rape is a yellow-flowered plant traditionally grown for its oil. It's a major crop in the UK - by late spring there are whole fields that are golden-yellow with its flowers.
