I started to think about this the other day because I still haven't figured myself out yet. I've seen some people perform better with someone yelling at them or by boosting their confidence. I've also seen others completely focused and hell bent on pushing out their max while listening to their jams. I like having a workout buddy, but there are times that I think i'd get more results from just burying myself in my workout. Just wondering what everyone else's opinion is.
A work out buddy can be great if you are both on the same page. Also, it's great to work out with people who are stronger than you are as you tend to push yourself more just seeing how much more they are lifting than you are.
I think different people are motivated differently and you're going to get different answers. I've hardly ever worked out with anyone, and when I did it was frustrating. I really enjoy my tunes now, and I want to keep it that way. My buddy offered to get up and work out with me, but I'm secretly hoping he doesn't do it.
For me it depends on what I am doing. If it's running I like to have my music but if it's strength based then sometimes it's good have someone there telling you that you can do it and will do it.
I'll pick the playlist any day. Maybe it's just me, but i can push myself harder when i know i have no one to save me on that last rep. I think it's probably just mental, but failure is more successful when i don't have any other choice but to succeed. Plus a workout buddy often slows things down too much.

I have started pushing a lot harder now that i'm working out with a buddy but trying to talk to that guy during cardio sucks because i miss my intervals sometimes. My routine has me spending most of my time lifting and not doing cardio so i guess it's better to have the motivation where i need it the most.
I prefer to hit it hard alone and listen to my music. But I wouldn't mind someone pushing me or me pushing someone else from time to time.
I'm still tweaking that perfect routine that really helps me achieve my goals. I find waking up super early and going in when no one else is around really does it for me. Having the whole place to myself, so I can focus on training and zone out in general. Love training because it really clears my head out. I have a buddy I train with occasionally, which really does push me. He's a bit more experienced than I am, but we're just as motivated, and it does help doing it with someone else if they're on the same page as you. I have trained with people who dick around, which is annoying - as a lot of people do want to come to socialise and not really anything in particular, but when I am there it's like a church for me. Sacred and deserving respect.
I like having a workout buddy to get me to the gym, knowing someone is waiting on you. When we are there, I don't like to talk to anyone. I need music in the background, but I do not want to carry on a conversation during a workout. I need to focus.
I'd say a buddy helps me to be more motivated, but I don't have any friends that lift so I'm stuck just listening to music
