    Actually, on the subject of not lifting too much;

    A problem I have never understood is the following; If I haven't gone to the gym for a while, then I start again with a weight that I know I can safely lift, and increase it to one I feel safe working with in my first session back (deliberately staying lower than I know I should be able to lift). What gets me is that the next time I go to the gym I won't even be able to lift the weight I worked with last time!!! even though it's supposed to be a low weight.

    For example. This is now my fourth week back at the gym after a long interval. The first week back I only did three workouts out of the four I was supposed to do, so shoulders and arms got missed out. The following week I added arms to my first workout, but shoulders didn't get done for the first time until the end of the week. My first shoulder exercise was Machine Shoulder Press. I put 30Kg on as a light start weight but this was too light so I worked up to 50Kg. The next week I missed shoulders so I added it to my first workout this week (so granted I had just done a 45 minute chest workout), but I sat down to do the Machine Shoulder Press and put 50Kg on.

    I couldn't even lift the weights off the rest!!! Couldn't lift 50Kg at all. Could barely lift 30Kg!!!!

    I know that over the next three weeks or so I'll work back to 50Kg and then go higher, but What is going on with this second visit thing?

    If it makes you feel any better, I've had that without a break. What I've attributed it to was overtraining.

    Because the gym i go is small an quiet, i've only had the pleasure of this kind of "motivation" once, but MY GOD!
    imagine a basketball cut in half and put down some skintight trousers, I think i ended up doing about 30 sets of tricep dips purely because of the "motivation" infront of me on the treadmill!
