Status: I am a newbie and use machines intead of free weights since I want to avoid injury and don't have a partner. i normally do 3 or 4 sets. A friend of mine mentioned that I should do the first rep pretty light (like 50 - 60%) and treat it as kind of a warm-up. And have bigger weight changes between sets (I normally change weight by only 5 - 10% between sets, if that. I thought I will get guidance from you guys on how to manage weights for 3 - 4 sets.
