The start of the new year can bring about expected and unexpected lifestyle changes. These changes can be thought of as behavior modifications or changes in habit that encourage a positive change in your life. Jefit has put together a short, easy-to-follow list, of lifestyle changes that you may find interesting enough to even try at some point in 2023.

Nutritional Changes

Maybe this is the year that your workouts become more consistent but you also focus more on healthy eating. Healthy eating can mean different things to different people. See if anything on the the following list resonates enough with you to actually try.

  • Try movings more towards a plant-based diet or your version of a Mediterranean diet.
  • Use intermittent fasting at various times throughout the month.
  • Read all food labels before you eat something especially if you know it may not be the healthiest food/drink choice.
  • Monitor your DASI: daily added sugar intake. Men = <38 grams/added sugar/day and women <25 grams/added sugar/day

Exercise Changes

For some people, small changes in their cumulative amount of activity throughout the day can add up to big gains. Try adding in brief activity period throughout your day especially during the afternoon and after dinner.

  • Increase your daily step rate. Take short walks (10-20 minutes) after lunch and dinner. Set a daily and monthly goal for your total steps.
  • Add at least one HIIT session to your weekly workout routine.
  • Shake up your exercise program altogether. A new training methodology creates a new training stimulus (or stress) which the body typically responds well too.
  • Add a few challenging exercises to your routine. What movements are a real challenge for you? Squats, Olympic lifts, or maybe pull-ups? add them to your next program. Master the difficult this year!

Improve Your Mind/Body Connection

  • Try meditation this year if you have not tried it as of yet.
