I've had really bad anxiety all my life. I've used the magnesium and vitamin d to try to fight it but after quitting smoking it's not helping as much. anyone got any insight to fighting it without prescriptions?

Workout Addict Do yoga and meditation or take a yoga class. Take an Ashwaganda supplement and/or drink chamomile tea. The scent of lavender can also calm your nerves.

fitcounselor Lavender and ashwagandha are helpful supplements for me. Have you also tried talk therapy?

slopes615 Some stuff I found out. Might wanna check out some places that carry nootropics. They most likely will have supplements like this. Props to you for trying to stay off pharmaceuticals.

slopes615 2. L-Theanine (Calm Focus)
Found naturally in green tea, this amino acid is excellent for reducing stress without making you feel groggy.
• Why it works: It promotes "alpha brain waves," which are associated with a state of "relaxed alertness."
• Efficiency Tip: It works quickly (often within 30–60 minutes), making it a great tool for stressful situations like meetings or heavy traffic.
3. Ashwagandha (The Stress Buffer)
This is an "adaptogen," meaning it helps your body adapt to and resist physical and mental stress.
• Why it works: It is scientifically shown to help lower cortisol (the "stress hormone") levels.
• Efficiency Tip: Unlike L-Theanine, Ashwagandha usually works best when taken consistently over several weeks to build up its stress-buffering effects.
4. Lavender (Silexan)
While many people think of lavender only as a scent, a specific oral preparation called Silexan has been shown in clinical trials to be as effective as some low-dose pharmaceutical anti-anxiety medications.
• Why it works: It helps modulate the calcium channels in the brain that trigger the "fight or flight" response.
5. Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Brain Health)
High doses of fish oil (rich in EPA and DHA) can help lower inflammation in the brain that is often linked to high anxiety levels.
• Efficiency Tip: Look for a supplement with at least 2,000mg of combined EPA/DHA for the best results regarding mood.
