great effort but PRs, max reps, or to failure should NEVER be done without a spotter. I've witnessed injuries ignoring safety. Being older, now I see how dangerous it can be. When I was young and thinking I was bulletproof, I'd do some stupid s**t. Be careful, accidents happen real quick.

everyone should know how to "roll of shame", it's the best way to fail a bench and besides a bruise on the stomach it's not going to cause the chaos of trying to bail weight to the side

Glad nothing happened.
I found myself in a similar situation with a “few” extra plates in an empty gym. Rolling the bar down wasn’t an option due to the weight and I nearly dislocated my shoulder getting the bar out of my chest. Since then I’ve stopped using barbells. Fortunately, there’s a smith machine and enough dumbbells here. As I usually work out alone I don’t want to bother anyone but I still want to push myself to failure.
It’s simply a matter of safety for me.
