Aaron Marino is not interested in soft openings, weak introductions, or half-assed anything. Your first workout in Tailored is a classic high-volume workout that starts with a bang and keeps making you work until the last rep.
As written, this is a full-assed chest and triceps beatdown with 37 sets and over 600 reps in total. Getting through Day 1 of any workout is never easy, but getting through is going to feel like a wonderful hell.
Why "wonderful?" Because this is Day 1 of a new program to build a new body and unprecedented levels of confidence. Because against all odds, you made it here and are ready to do this. So today isn't hell, it's "hell yes!" You'll be sore as hell tomorrow, but you're going to remember this day for years as one of the best things you ever did for yourself.
All that said: If you're relatively new to the gym, like, you've been lifting consistently for a year or less, don't be afraid to cut back on the volume. This is an advanced workout! If you're not "there" yet—and you'll know quickly if you are—perform 2-3 sets instead of 3-4 sets, and don't be afraid to skip the last movement in a body-part series.
No, this doesn't mean you have permission to cut back through the whole program! If you take it easy for the first couple of weeks, come back and try to repeat the program as written from the start. Seriously!
And no, you don't get to skip cardio—today, or ever. After you've murdered your upper body, you'll do 20 minutes to put your ego on blast and build a heart to match your chest.
